Interior rooms live in the Interior section of the Inspection tab, under Dwelling. Each room gets its own page for measurements, photos, and findings — and every room you add needs at least one photo before the report. Buildings under Other structures use this same interior flow.

Floors#

The Interior section is organized by floor. Tabs across the top show one tab per floor, plus + Floor.

  • Tap + Floor and pick a preset — 1st Floor, 2nd Floor, 3rd Floor, or Basement — or type a name under Custom floor name and tap Add Custom.
  • Tap the active floor tab a second time to open Rename floor and Delete floor.

A floor that still has rooms cannot be deleted — move or delete its rooms first — and the inspection always keeps at least one floor plan.

Two ways to add a room#

An empty floor shows both options on screen; on a floor that already has rooms, tap Add to open the same choices.

Scan rooms#

Scan rooms uses LiDAR to capture room shapes and measurements automatically. It needs a LiDAR-equipped iPhone or iPad running the FieldFaktor iOS app; on other devices, add rooms by hand instead.

  1. Tap Scan rooms.
  2. Walk the connected rooms in one continuous pass.
  3. When you finish, the rooms are added to the floor and the app confirms how many.

If only some scanned rooms were usable, the app says so and asks you to re-scan the others from their room pages. If the rooms could not be stitched together, their shapes are still saved — arrange them in the floor-plan editor, or re-scan the floor in one continuous walk. A warning also appears if tracking was lost mid-scan, because saved room positions may be wrong.

You can add another scan to the same floor later — useful for a wing you skipped the first time.

Add a room by hand#

  1. Tap Add a room by hand.
  2. Type a Room name, or pick a suggestion such as Living Room, Kitchen, Master Bedroom, or Bathroom.
  3. Tap Add Room.

You can capture or re-scan the room's measurements later from its room page. In the room list, long-press a room to drag it into a new order; its ··· menu offers Delete Room.

The room page#

Tap a room to open it. From top to bottom:

  • Floor plan preview — a 2D plan of the room once a scan exists. Tap a dimension to correct it.
  • Capture Measurements — runs a LiDAR scan of this one room. The button turns green and reads Measurements · captured when done; scanning again replaces the existing measurements.
  • Scan summary — counts of Walls, Doors, and Windows, with Add Photos, Re-scan Room, and View 3D buttons. View 3D appears in the iOS app when a 3D model was saved with the scan.
  • Overview — photos of the room as a whole.
  • Ceiling and Walls — a photo row for each of the two surfaces every room asks about.
  • + Room items — everything else you expect to photograph (next section).
  • Damage / notes — free-text notes for this room.

Room items#

Tap + Room items to open the catalog: Floor, Trim, Cabinets, Doors / Windows, Fixtures, and More, which also accepts custom items. Every room starts with three defaults — Baseboard, Window trim, and Door unit. Remove what does not apply and add what does; each selected item becomes its own photo row on the room page.

Labeling interior damage#

After a ceiling, wall, or item photo, pick the damage it shows: None, Water stain, Water damage, Crack, Wear, Mechanical, Prior repair, or Other. Then answer Project related?Yes, No, or Unknown. The app suggests an answer from the damage you picked; confirm or change it. The damage answer writes the photo's report caption for you — pick Other and the caption stays blank so you can describe the damage in your own words. The Project related? answer is saved with the photo.

One photo per room, minimum#

Every room on file needs at least one photo before the report. The Closing tab shows how many rooms still have none — see Closing and Final Pass — and once everything clears, reports generate from the Report Review tab (Generate reports).
